McAdams Academy is an alternative, trauma-informed private school located in Wichita, Kansas. Our students are high-risk youths in middle school or high school and do not have access to a structured learning environment.

The three main reasons that our students are not able to attend public schools is because they are expelled, suspended, or in the foster system without a permanent placement.

Students can earn high school credits while working on their problem behavior through the many programs available to them at McAdams.  As schools struggle with how to handle problem behavior in the classroom, student expulsions have become the most used disciplinary action across the nation.

Some studies suggest that insubordination is responsible for over ninety percent of school expulsions.  Twenty percent of students with an emotional behavioral disorder (EBD) are arrested at least once before leaving school; fifty-eight percent of those students will be arrested within three to five years after they leave school.  Studies also estimate that thirty percent of expelled students become involved in the judicial system.
